4 Ways To Spur Your Creativity
Being Creative is hard. Staying creative is even more difficult. We all have times when we're full of creativity and other times we are not. Sometimes the creativity doesn't come back to you as quickly as other times. Here is how I spur my creativity, when I need to.
Meet with Interesting People.
Each month I try and meet with someone I think is interesting or doing cool work. I ask them to lunch or coffee, not to talk about business but just to get to know each other. Most of the time, interesting conversations happen and I am inspired the way they think. Even just the energy of a new person can help you be more creative. So put yourself out there and take someone cool to lunch.
Purge Your Brain of Distractions.
When there is a lot on your mind, personally and professionally, you're unable to focus your energy on being creative. Even having to make too many decisions can hinder your creative mind. This is why people like Mark Zuckerberg wear the same 'uniform' everyday. Something as simple as not having to think about what to wear, can free your mind to be more creative.
For the past year I have even purged my house of things I didn't really need. I've also simplified my work schedule and how many businesses I run. All of these things have helped me become more creative in the end.
Be Social!
Sometimes you need to just get out and have a good time. Be social and go to networking events or even dinner with friends. Being creative is also about being around good energy. Go to a holiday party this year and have a good time. Social gatherings can be daunting but we often leave feeling good and energized. So, have a party!!
Go Outside!
It's the easiest thing you can do, take a walk. Around your office or just around the block, studies show that walking for 20 minutes improves your brain function. Taking a hike or going camping is a good way to reconnect with nature. Having that time to soak up the peaceful, calm of nature will help you to be much more creative.
Doing these things for yourself will not only make you more creative but you'll be more effective at home and work. So find what works for you and give these tips a try. They work for me! If you do try them, let me know how they work for you.
